Our client is a Waltham Abbey-based, growing residential developer with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality new homes.
The business typically delivers 40–100 new homes per annum and, due to continued growth, is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their career within a successful residential developer, gaining exposure to the full commercial lifecycle of new-build housing projects.
The Role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager / Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will provide commercial support across a number of residential developments, assisting with the financial and contractual management of projects from pre-construction through to completion.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Quantity Surveyor with the commercial management of residential projects
- Assisting with the preparation and management of budgets, forecasts and cost reports
- Assisting with subcontractor procurement and tendering
- Preparing and reviewing subcontractor payments
- Assisting with valuations, variations and final accounts
- Monitoring project costs and expenditure
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly commercial reports
- Supporting the management of subcontractor accounts
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and scope of works
- Working closely with site and commercial teams to ensure projects remain within budget
- Assisting with the commercial close-out of projects
The Person
The ideal person will have some previous experience within quantity surveying or commercial management, ideally gained within the residential housebuilding or construction sector.
You should have:
- Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or similar commercial role
- Experience within construction, ideally residential new build
- Good understanding of construction costs and subcontractor packages
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good communication and organisational skills
- A keen eye for detail
- The ambition to progress within a growing residential developer
- Relevant construction/commercial qualifications or working towards them would be advantageous
